Elora

Elora is only 3 kilometres from Fergus. It has many attractions worth visiting, such as the Elora Gorge & Conservation Area, the Elora Quarry, the spectacular view at the "Tooth of Time" at the Elora Mill Inn, The Elora Gorge Trailway, the Elora Center of the Arts, the Elora Antique Show, the Elora Cataract Trailway, and its newest addition: the Grand River Raceway with its slot machines/casino. This racetrack used to be in Elmira, Ontario.

The Wellington County Museum & Archives has twelve galleries with exhibits that reflect the lifestories of Wellington County people over the past centuries. The Museum has a superb textile collection, and frequently showcases local artists. It also houses archives which document the history of Wellington County from its first settlement. Visit the museum on County Road 18, the main road between Fergus and Elora.

The quaint Village of St. Jacobs, with its famous St. Jacobs Farmers Market & Flea Market and Factory Outlet Mall, is certainly worth a visit. The market has a lively cattle auction, which is accessible to the public. Buy your summer sausages, pure maple syrup, and other local delicacies from Mennonite farmers, who still travel to market by horse and buggy. On market days you can take one of the horse drawn Trolley Tours. More than 600 vendors.

Guelph

The downtown Entertainment & Sports Center houses minor hockey team the Guelph Storm Hockey Club, winner of the 2003 OHL Championship.

Cox Creek Wineries makes excellent fruit wines in Guelph, Ontario. Why not Merlots, or Carbernet Sauvignons? Because the Niagara Wine Region has a monopoly on these wines in Ontario. Cox Creek Cellars is located 10 minutes north of Guelph Ontario on Highway 6 North, towards Fergus. Watch for Wellington Road 22 or 8th line Road. Tours are available seasonally on Saturdays and Sundays (tour fees apply).

Cambridge

The African Lion Safari in Cambridge, Ontario is a park where the visitors are caged in a car, and the animals roam around in 2 to 20 hectare reserves.

The Elmira Maple Syrup Festival, in the middle of Mennonite country, since 1965. More than 100 vendors.

Stratford (April-November)

The Stratford Festival of Canada started by doing two plays written by William Shakespeare. Now it is more than just a Shakespeare Festival, with theater and music. The season is from mid-April to early November.

Elora Festival Book Sale (May)

Each first weekend of May the Annual Elora Festival Book Sale attracts book lovers from all over Ontario, Canada, even the USA! This fundraising event for the Elora Festival at the Elora Curling Club cannot be missed. In addition to books, the sale will feature LP records, paper ephemera, games and puzzles. Donations of items will be accepted up to and during the sale. Mark your Calendar for next year's edition.

Elora Festival (July)

The Elora Festival celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2009. This event in the heritage village of Elora offers the best in choral, classical, jazz and popular music performed in warm, informal venues.

Guelph (July)

The Hillside festival is a three-day, five-stage community-based celebration of music, dance, drumming and the spoken word, in Guelph Lake Park.
